Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Questions about the rehabilitation of the Commercial Port of Namibe, whose works will end in three years, were addressed this Thursday, in Luanda, by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o and the president of Toyota Tsusho Corporation.<\/b><\/p>\n

The matter was dealt with during the audience granted by Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o to the also CEO of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Ichiro Kashitani, responsible for carrying out the expansion works of the container terminal at the Port of Namibe and rehabilitation of the Saco-Mar ore terminal.<\/p>\n

They are budgeted at around US$700 million.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press at the end of the audience, Ichiro Kashitani said that the work was proceeding as normal and therefore had to meet the stipulated deadlines.<\/p>\n

The meeting also served to address issues related to renewable energies, export of Angolan products to Japan, among others of common interest.<\/p>\n

The work will focus on the opposite side of the bay, where a new container terminal for the Port of Namibe will be built, a modern infrastructure equipped with means to improve the efficiency of the operation and increase the competitiveness of the enterprise.<\/p>\n

At the Saco-mar mining terminal, the contract covers the northern part of Moc\u0327a\u0302medes Bay, installing a maritime protection barrier to the north of the mouth of the Bero River.<\/p>\n

Inaugurated in 1957, the Commercial Port of Namibe is one of the main ports in the country, being the largest in the southern region and the third largest in Angola.<\/p>\n

The Saco-Mar Minerals terminal was built in 1967, with the aim of exporting iron ores exploited in the mines of Cassinga, in the province of Hui\u0301la, and operated for eight years. In 1973 it reached its highest export value, with 62 million tons.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1887, the Japanese group Toyota Tsusho Corporation has more than 12,000 workers. The company is represented in 39 countries, 34 of which in Africa.<\/p>\n
