Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>A field of 345 thousand and 187 square meters, located in Vila Luso, on the outskirts of the city of Luena, in the province of Moxico, was demined and delivered yesterday to the local government by Grupo Consulto de Minas (MAG).<\/b><\/p>\n

The project financed by the Japanese government, with a value of 647 thousand 59 US dollars, was carried out in 12 months, having removed and destroyed 21 anti-tank mines, 15 anti-personnel mines, 543 uxos (unexploded ordnance) and 1,000 350 ammunition of various calibers.<\/p>\n

In progress, the area of \u200b\u200bVila Luso 2 is being cleared, where work has already been carried out in an area of \u200b\u200b118 thousand and 434 explosive devices and an anti-tank mine, seven streams and 593 ammunition of various calibers have been removed.<\/p>\n

Within months, MAG will carry out works in the third zone of that neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the handover of the demined area, the charge d’affaires of the Japanese embassy in Angola, Takahashi Yusuke, said that the project is part of his country’s financed activities, within the scope of the Assistance Program for Community Projects and Human Security (APC).<\/p>\n

He stated that Japan wants to create a safer life in communities in Angola, given the danger posed by mines.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he suggested that the Government of Moxico register for the next project approval cycle, as Japan wants to support the province in this segment and in the sectors of health, education and drinking water.<\/p>\n

The deputy governor of the province of Moxico, for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Victor da Silva, when showing satisfaction with the handover of the field, said that it would be an \u201cadditional asset\u201d for the population to expand their production areas agriculture, in addition to driving safely.<\/p>\n

Japan has supported Angola with community mine action projects since 1999, having disbursed more than 16 million dollars (14 million euros) \u201cnon-refundable\u201d, in assistance programs and community plans in the region.<\/p>\n

In Moxico, it currently supports demining projects, through MAG, in the Vila Luso 2 and 3 neighborhoods, the perimeter of Luena airport \u201cComandante Dangereux\u201d, bridge over the Canhengue river, Lumege Pinto and Lumege Candjamba, in an investment of US$611 thousand North Americans.<\/p>\n

However, in this eastern province of the country, there are records of 233 minefields, detected in 2022 in the municipalities of Moxico (provincial headquarters), Camanongue, Bundas, Alto Zambeze and Luchazes.<\/p>\n
