Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Thirteen thousand and 360 road accidents were registered in Angola during the year 2022, resulting in 2 thousand 999 dead and 15 thousand 693 injured.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information is contained in the communique\u0301 of the meeting of the National Council for Roads and Traffic Planning (CNVOT), held this Monday, in Luanda, under the guidance of the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, who appreciated the draft of the National Strategy for Prevention and Road Safety 2023-2027, among others.<\/p>\n

Compared to 2021, there was an increase of 1,134 road accidents, involving people aged between 18 and 47 years.<\/p>\n

The province of Luanda, with 3,356 accidents, 952 dead and 3,302 injured, led the number of victims, followed by Hui\u0301la (1,240 accidents, 185 dead and 1,331 injured), Benguela (1,098 accidents, 287 dead and 1,341 injured), Huambo (1,037 accidents, 241 dead and 1,208 injured) and Lunda Norte (694 accidents, 166 dead and 856 injured).<\/p>\n

The prevalence rate by administrative unit places Luanda at the top with 25% of accidents, 32% of deaths and 21% of injuries, followed by the provinces of Hui\u0301la (9% of accidents, 6% of deaths and 8% of injuries), Benguela (9% of accidents, 10% of deaths and 9% of injuries), Huambo (8% of accidents, 8% of deaths and 8% of injuries).<\/p>\n

In contrast, there is the province of Cuando Cubango (2% of accidents, 1% of deaths and 2% of injuries) and the province of Namibe (2% of accidents, 2% of deaths and 2% of injuries).<\/p>\n

During the meeting, CNVOT members analyzed the balance report of the National Road Safety and Prevention Strategy (ENPSR 2019 -2022), approved by Presidential Decree No. 169\/19 of May 21, in line with UN recommendations and SADC, constituting unequivocal proof of the Executive’s commitment to reducing the mortality rate resulting from road accidents.<\/p>\n

Thus, following the ENPSR 2019 – 2022, an instrument that includes strategic objectives, operational objectives and key actions, in line with the objectives defined by the UN, OHS and Regional Integration (SADC, CONESA and EAC), the New Strategy that, in theory, aims to reaffirm and reinforce the Executive’s commitment to reducing deaths on the roads in the period 2023-2027.<\/p>\n

The ENPSR 2023 – 2027, with which it is intended, among other aspects, to guarantee the effective implementation of public road safety policies, has six (6) strategic objectives, 29 operational objectives and 143 key actions. The objectives and actions are aimed, essentially, at improving and expanding rescue and support services for victims, reducing the intervention time of these services, as well as guaranteeing pre-hospital medical assistance and treatment for victims.<\/p>\n

In addition, it foresees the improvement of the safety levels of the road infrastructures, inside and outside the localities, of the mechanisms and procedures in the design of streets and roads in urban areas, as well as restructuring the driver training process, creating vehicle inspection centers , and reinforce inspection and control of drivers and vehicles.<\/p>\n

The National Council for Traffic and Traffic Planning was informed about the Project for Revision of the Road Code, approved by Decree-Law No. S\/08 of 29 September. This project is fundamentally intended to improve the mobility of car and pedestrian traffic, establishing legal rules applicable to traffic on public roads, in line with the Southern Africa Development Protocol, to reduce mortality rates resulting from road accidents transport, and align Angola’s National Transit System with the SADC Tripartite Transport and Transit Facilitation Program (PTTFT).<\/p>\n

Created under Presidential Decree 18\/13 of April 15, the National Council for Road Traffic and Traffic Planning is the consultation body of the holder of the Executive Power in matters relating to road and traffic planning at national level.<\/p>\n

It is incumbent upon the National Council for Traffic and Traffic Planning, among other duties, to promote road traffic safety and propose the approval of laws and other measures aimed at solving road traffic problems.<\/p>\n
