Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The oil sector in Angola maintains its commitment to the decarbonisation process of the industry, with a view to reducing the emission of gases harmful to the environment.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided this Monday by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he is part of the Angolan delegation participating in the 2023 Sustainability Week.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, the minister recalled that the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas sector is already working to decarbonise the industry, together with partner entities.<\/p>\n

He pointed out as an example of this joint action, the commitment, increasing, in the production of solar energy, green hydrogen (generated by renewable energy) and the planting of mangroves.<\/p>\n

Challenge to supply energy sustainably<\/b><\/p>\n

The Minister of Energy and Water, Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges, who is also part of the Angolan delegation, said that the country has 64 percent of its energy supply from environmentally friendly sources.<\/p>\n

“Certainly, we will pass 70 percent with the projects we have”, said the official, adding that energy sustainability “has to be guaranteed not only by building infrastructures”, but by a set of factors.<\/p>\n

Among the set of factors, he highlighted the strengthening of institutional capacity and the training of staff who, in his view, will contribute to energy security and to obtaining clean and cheap electricity.<\/p>\n

Reforestation and transport<\/b><\/p>\n

The Minister of the Environment, Paula Francisco Coelho, acknowledged that there is much to be done in areas such as reforestation and waste treatment.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Abreu, referred that, in the world, the sector contributes with 25 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n

He said that it was for this reason that the transport sector should be linked to the energy transition process.<\/p>\n

He announced for this year the implementation of the electro mobility strategy, which will allow the orderly introduction of electric vehicles in Angola.<\/p>\n

“It is a process that will happen in stages”, explained the minister, adding that within the framework of the strategy public and goods transport vehicles will be privileged.<\/p>\n

According to Minister Ricardo Abreu, priority will also be given to regions based on their level of development and energy transport.<\/p>\n

The mechanism covers what it considered “energy transition in terms of green (environmentally friendly) infrastructure”.<\/p>\n

“We are talking about airports, ports, all these infrastructures that also have to present clean energy supply solutions”, he expressed.<\/p>\n
