Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, said this Tuesday that, by 2027, Angola will use 77 percent of renewable energy. <\/b><\/p>\n

The Angolan Head of State made this commitment during his intervention on the panel on Clean Energy in Africa, within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023.<\/p>\n

Angola currently produces 76 percent of its energy from environmentally friendly sources, making Africa the least polluting continent, emitting 25 percent of greenhouse gas.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o informed that the country has outlined complementary actions in the field of sustainable management.<\/p>\n

“We are building a large hydroelectric dam that will add 2.3 gigawatts of hydroelectric power”, he said, adding that, in the medium term, the goal is to produce another 1.2 gigawatts from solar parks.<\/p>\n

Before an attentive audience, the Angolan President reiterated Angola’s determination to remain committed to climate action and the adoption of a low-carbon development model.<\/p>\n

He stated, on the occasion, that Angola is taking the first steps to produce green hydrogen and that the country is open to the production of wind energy.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he informed that, alongside production, Angola is committed to building new energy transmission lines to different corners of the country.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o made it clear that one of Africa’s objectives is to achieve industrialization in the coming decades, but warned that the continent should not repeat what happened in other parts of the world, where the industrialization process caused considerable environmental damage.<\/p>\n

As for holding the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28), which the United Arab Emirates will host in November, he said he faces the event with great hope.<\/p>\n

During the panel discussion on Clean Energy in Africa, the Angolan Head of State encouraged the transition to clean energy.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o intervened on the panel alongside his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema.<\/p>\n
