Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Monetary Policy Committee of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) decided this Friday to reduce the basic interest rate from 19.5% to 18%, after analyzing recent macroeconomic indicators.<\/b><\/p>\n

In addition to reducing the basic interest rate, the BNA also changed the interest rate on the permanent liquidity decency facility from 21% to 18% and the interest rate on the permanent liquidity absorption facility from 15% to 14%.<\/p>\n

This decision, according to the governor of the National Bank of Angola, Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano, is based on the reduction in inflation observed throughout 2022 and a certain reduction in inflationary pressures.<\/p>\n

For the decision-making process, the CPM also analyzed the national and international monetary economic context.<\/p>\n

With the decision taken to reduce all the BNA’s key rates, they will initially allow citizens and companies that have bank credits in national currency referenced to the Luibor, the interbank market rate, to experience relief.<\/p>\n

These rates, in addition to transactions that occur on a day-to-day basis, are influenced by BNA action, based on its references, such as the permanent liquidity decency facility interest rate, which is the rate that commercial banks use to the Central Bank, when it has a need for liquidity.<\/p>\n

“If this rate is lower, it means that banks will have the condition, for their liquidity needs, to resort to lower costs and these lower costs can be passed on to their customers”, clarified Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano.<\/p>\n

According to Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano, the reduction is what will be seen at first, admitting that “we do not have expectations of a strong growth in credit in the short term, for this reason, but credit will continue to grow naturally at a pace, which at this point, for the purpose of reducing inflation, is not so out of place”.<\/p>\n

At the moment, one of the biggest concerns of the Central Bank is the effectiveness of the Monetary Policy transmission instruments, according to the official.<\/p>\n

By having more favorable conditions, the BNA guarantees that families and companies with credit in national currency will see the lowest rates.<\/p>\n

With lower interest rates, it is expected to assist, likewise, more projects to enter a viability framework, since the financial costs will tend to be lower.<\/p>\n

With the increase in credit taking place, the BNA predicts a positive impact from the pace of the economy and other existing assumptions, removing dangers that could affect the course of disinflation that the economy has been recording.<\/p>\n

The reduction in interest rates will affect any new requests for credit that are made, the effects of which may be felt in the next 90 days.<\/p>\n
