Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>A delegation from the Geological Institute of the States of America is in the country to establish relations with the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO), with a focus on geological research, especially of critical minerals for the energy transition.<\/b><\/p>\n

This information was provided yesterday, in Luanda, by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, when speaking to journalists about the meeting with the American delegation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking for our institute to establish relationships with the best and largest geological institutes in the world. We have already achieved this with some institutes such as the Geological Institute of Germany and, now, we are also establishing relations with the Geological Institute of the United States\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

The Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO), an institution whose mission is to provide credible geological information to the State, investors and academia, is located in the centrality of Kilamba, in the province of Luanda.<\/p>\n

The development was built in an area of \u200b\u200b44,650 square meters and comprises a headquarters building, laboratories for physical prospecting, chemical analysis and a social area.<\/p>\n

The laboratories are equipped with modern equipment for the physical preparation of geological samples, chemical and physical analysis of rocks, minerals and water.<\/p>\n

With regard to geological information, the IGEO adds a database with a large collection of geological knowledge of the Angolan territory, produced previously and within the framework of the National Geology Plan.<\/p>\n

In addition to Luanda, IGEO has regional centers in the city of Lubango (Hui\u0301la) and Saurimo (Lunda Sul).<\/p>\n

The Luanda laboratory has the most complete function, with a focus on micro-analysis. The one in Lubango, in addition to generic analyses, has the capacity to prepare and analyze ornamental rocks and minerals, while the one in Saurimo performs generic geoscientific analysis.<\/p>\n

Tuled by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, IGEO’s mission is to carry out and coordinate geological mapping and the study of mineral resources, taking into account the character and mining policy established by the Government.<\/p>\n
