Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The town of Chiulo, in the municipality of Ombadja, in Cunene, this Friday won an automatic meteorological station.<\/b><\/p>\n

Installed in the Catholic mission of Chiulo, the station was inaugurated by the acting governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga.<\/p>\n

Budgeted at 150,000 euros, it has an antenna 15 meters high with a range of 30 kilometers.<\/p>\n

The station was set up within the framework of the Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security of Angola project ( Fresan), an initiative of the Government of Angola, financed by the European Union and co-managed by the Portuguese Institute, Cam\u00f5es.<\/p>\n

According to the general director of the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INAMET), Jo\u00e3o Afonso, the station is state-of-the-art and will work with a 3G signal and a data storage device to be able to transmit via GPS (Global Positioning System ).<\/p>\n

The official clarified that the most reliable information will be collected and transmitted to the central server of INAMET, in Luanda, and then transmitted to the global system.<\/p>\n

Six automatic meteorological stations have already been installed on Fresan, two in Cunene province, two in Hu\u00edla and the same number in Namibe, totaling 800,000 euros.<\/p>\n

For her part, the European Union ambassador to Angola, Jeannette Seppen, highlighted the station as an important tool in assessing the climate, combating poverty and resilience.<\/p>\n

Jeannette Seppen stated that the Angolan Government and the European Union continued to work to resolve the different problems that affect communities, with emphasis on constant climate change.<\/p>\n

The bishop of the diocese of Ondjiva Dom Pio Hipunyati praised the investment that will help in the observation of climate information, passing real data on rainfall and other occurrences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that there will be more investments in the locality and other parts of the province, as they contribute to the social and economic development of our communities\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

On his turn, the acting governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulega, highlighted the availability of the European Union, through Fresan, to finance various projects in the region.<\/p>\n

In his opinion, the meteorological station will contribute to the control of sudden changes in temperature, the verification of the volume of rain, the speed and direction of the wind, having appealed for its conservation.<\/p>\n

Cunene province has 14 meteorological stations, nine of which are located in the municipality of Cuvelai.<\/p>\n

In terms of the country’s 18 provinces, INAMET controls 81 meteorological stations, with Cunene being the youngest beneficiary.<\/p>\n
