Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan community in Portugal increased by more than five thousand in just one year, the highest number during the presidency of Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o. Angola is already the sixth country with the most citizens in Portugal. Angolans are also among those who ask for nationality the most.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Angolan community in Portugal increased from 16,854 in 2017 to more than 30,000 in 2022, according to data from the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF). In the last year, for example, according to the SEF, in Portugal, 113,090 new residence permits were issued. Of these, Angola, with 5,652 titles, was among the three countries that lead the allocation of residence, in a list in which Brazil, with 38,889, is in first place, followed by Italy, with 5,903.<\/p>\n

The number of Angolans who obtained a residence permit was the highest ever, according to this weekly, based on the SEF’s Immigration, Borders and Asylum Reports (RIFA).<\/p>\n

With these new titles, Angola rose in the ranking of the most represented nationalities in that Portuguese-speaking country, moving from ninth place, where it was until 2021, to sixth place, in 2022.<\/p>\n

The SEF numbers refer only to Angolans with a residence permit, leaving aside thousands of other homeless people living in that country, which would increase the number of citizens fleeing to try to live in Portugal.<\/p>\n

The Angolan population residing on Portuguese soil has been growing rapidly since 2018. In the year in which Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o took over the presidency of the country, the number of Angolans in Portuguese lands was 16,854, a record that, a year later, grew to 18,382 and then it never stopped. In 2019, for example, 22,691 Angolans were already registered, a number that skyrocketed to 24,449, in 2020, and to 25,802, in 2021.<\/p>\n
