Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The National Assembly (AN) approves, next Friday (27), in an extraordinary plenary meeting, the definitive composition of its bodies, under the proposal of the president of the hemicycle, Carolina Cerqueira.<\/b><\/p>\n

At the conference of parliamentary leaders, held this Monday, under the guidance of the president of the AN, Carolina Cerqueira, it was decided that the MPLA, which holds the majority in the hemicycle, will keep the 1st and 3rd vice-presidencies of the AN, and the UNITA with the 2nd and 4th vice-presidencies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The same matrix will be carried out at the level of the secretaries of the Board of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

The MPLA Parliamentary Group had nominated, in September last year, for the posts of vice-president and second vice-president, deputies Ame\u0301rico Cunonoca and Rau\u0301l Lima, respectively.<\/p>\n

UNITA did not participate at the time of that vote and its deputies left the hemicycle en bloc and, in the same month, challenged the resolution that elected the MPLA deputy for the position of 2nd vice-president of the AN.<\/p>\n

UNITA, which is represented in Parliament with 90 deputies, has been complaining for months that the 2nd and 4th vice-presidents of the AN must leave their parliamentary group.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Angolan parliament, Carolina Cerqueira emphasized that her proposal is a need to strengthen the institutional role of the AN with legality, democratic spirit and, above all, “that we can all contribute in a constructive and appeasing way to the strengthening of democracy (…)”.<\/p>\n

He said it was necessary that, in this process, the common good and property of the Angolans be effectively a reality.<\/p>\n

Important decision for the life of AN<\/b>
\n<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the president of the MPLA parliamentary group, Virgi\u0301lio de Fontes Pereira, said, by the way, that the parliamentary country and the political country made history, noting that it was an important decision for the life of the parliament.<\/p>\n

“We had the opportunity to listen to the proposal of the president of the AN, in the sense of resuming the discussion and taking a decision on the definitive composition of the Bureau of the AN and the MPLA gave its “agreement”, because we understand that it was time to resolve, definitively, this problem, which affected not only the political perception, but also the functioning of the parliament itself”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

Deputy Virgi\u0301lio de Fontes Pereira also spoke of the need to revise the Organic Law of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

Relevant political decision<\/b>
\n<\/p>\n

The leader of the UNITA Parliamentary Group, Liberty Chiaka, said that the proposal by the President of the National Assembly, which was approved by the MPLA parliamentary group, was a very relevant political decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs of today, Angolans can have confidence in the National Assembly, we are up to the challenges. We want to believe that, finally, Parliament will be in a position to play its role smoothly”, he pointed out.<\/p>\n
