Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The country’s capital (Luanda) hosts, in October this year, the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), which brings together over a thousand deputies from all over the world.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was confirmed, this Monday, to the press by the president of this body, the Portuguese Duarte Pacheco, at the end of a meeting with the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, there are only logistical issues to be resolved, the political will on the part of the authorities has been demonstrated and the decision on the part of the UIP has been taken. It remains to fix the opening ceremony, which always counts with the presence of the Head of State of the organizing country”, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

He informed that the IPU meeting can have, as a rule, 160 delegations from all over the world, involving more than a thousand parliamentarians and many of these delegations led by the presidents of the respective parliaments.<\/p>\n

He said he was delighted to hold one of the IPU Assemblies (they only take place twice a year) in a Portuguese-speaking country. The last time this happened was over 50 years ago.<\/p>\n

The IPU is an international organization of parliaments of sovereign states, whose aim is to mediate parliamentarians’ multilateral contacts.<\/p>\n

King Filipe VI of Spain may visit Angola in February this year, informed, this Monday, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of that European country in Angola, Manuel Lajarreta Lobo.<\/p>\n

The Spanish diplomat was speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with the president of the National Assembly,<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira said that the state visit of King Filipe VI of Spain, the first to a sub-Saharan African country, will boost relations at the highest level.<\/p>\n

Cooperation relations between Angola and the Kingdom of Spain are based on the General Cooperation Agreement, signed on May 20, 1987, and the Complementary Agreement to the General Agreement, initialed in November 1987.<\/p>\n

Cooperation between the two countries has intensified in the business sector. Spain has more than 60 companies operating in Angola in various sectors, such as Energy, Banking, Construction and Agriculture.<\/p>\n
