Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) has recently launched a project, with an American partner, in order to minimize the effects of drought in southern Angola, as well as to find innovative solutions for mitigation of the problem, using space science.<\/b><\/p>\n

This fact was mentioned, this Friday (27), by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Ma\u0301rio Augusto Oliveira, before the inauguration, by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, of the Satellite Control and Mission Centre, in area of \u200b\u200bFunda, in Luanda.<\/p>\n

The official said that the GGPEN project together with a recognized scientific institution in the United States of America aims to explore the relationship between environmental and socioeconomic trends, using space science, “the results of which could constitute a great contribution” for the country.<\/p>\n

Of the set of actions of the National Space Programme, Ma\u0301rio Oliveira also mentioned the Earth Observation Programme, which encompasses services and platforms, already in production, and which \u201cwill make a great contribution to the national economy\u201d.<\/p>\n

Of these, he highlighted “Tecnogest”, to monitor land infrastructure (roads, buildings, railways), “Tecnoecologia”, for ecological monitoring of the Angolan coast (oil spills) and “Tecnoagro”, for agricultural fields, contributing to precision agriculture and arable land management, he underlined.<\/p>\n

In addition to the listed benefits, the minister said that the National Space Program includes projects aimed at increasing spatial literacy, with emphasis on children’s spatial education, telemedicine, the expansion of banking services to the entire national territory, tele-education and modernization state administration.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the department he directs planned to hold, this year, the \u201cAngotic 2023\u201d, an international event with the presence of the main players in the telecommunications and information technology industry, including equipment manufacturers and academics.<\/p>\n

He predicted that the event will contribute to the promotion of telecommunications and information technology industries, technological tourism, as well as to the updating of digital platforms in the promotion of precision agriculture, health, education, environmental preservation and scientific research.<\/p>\n
