Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Young Disney Dias, from the city of Ondjiva, in Cunene, won Tuesday, the 2nd edition of the literary prize \u201cWriting to remember King Mandume ya Ndemufayo\u201d, in the poetry category.<\/b><\/p>\n

The competition is part of the commemorations of the 106th anniversary since the death of the last king of the Oukwanyama people, Mandume Ya Ndemufayo, on February 6, 1917.<\/p>\n

Disney Dias, with his poetry entitled \u201cA Histo\u0301ria wrote\u201d, obtained an average of 9.6 points.<\/p>\n

In the short story and scientific article categories, Holland Ndamonamwwene won, with the theme \u201cResenti a morte\u201d, with 8.33 points and Timo\u0301teo Kondjeni, \u201cMandume in times of globalization\u201d, with 6 points.<\/p>\n

The runners-up and third-placed in each category were also awarded in this edition.<\/p>\n

As a prize, the first classifieds received 120,000 kwanzas, the second 90,000 and third 60,000, as well as certificates for the 14 competitors who participated in the contest that ran from November 2022 to January of this year.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, the director of the provincial office for Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports in Cunene, Nelson Ndemulikuata, said that the competition was set up to encourage young people to create texts.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the first edition of the literary prize “Writing to remember Mandume”, took place in 2022, since the objective is to awaken young people in research and dissemination of the achievements carried out by the King of Oukwanyama.<\/p>\n

On his turn, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, highlighted the relevance of the contest, focused on preserving the legacy of Mandume, which is an example of determination for generations<\/p>\n

Apolo Ndinoulenga encouraged researchers and academics to promote research on the life and work of this figure, as well as others little referenced, with a view to his enthronement.<\/p>\n

Mandume ya Ndemufayo was born in 1884 in the lands of the reign of Oukwanyama, a national state of the Cuanhama peoples, of the Ovambo ethnolinguistic group, from southern Angola and northern Namibia.<\/p>\n

The Rei Mandume Memorial Complex is located in the village of Oihole, in the municipality of Namacunde, Cunene province, in southern Angola, and was erected in honor of King Mandume ya Ndemufayo.<\/p>\n
