Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Provincial Government of Moxico may move forward with the proposal to raise the Alto Luena neighborhood, located south of the city of Luena, to the category of municipality.<\/b><\/p>\n

With this intention, framed in the Political-Administrative Division, the Government of Moxico wants that the Alto Luena neighborhood has \u201cresources that allow to reach the levels of development desired by the local population\u201d.<\/p>\n

The proposal was announced, Monday, during the 1st extraordinary session of the Government of Moxico, also justifying that the measure can improve the approximation of basic social services to the population, whose demographic growth has been remarkable.<\/p>\n

In the end, the spokesperson for the meeting, Bonifa\u0301cio Bravante, highlighted the concentration of 468,369 inhabitants in Luena, the capital city, corresponding to 57 percent of the population of Moxico province, a fact that reflects new challenges in its management.<\/p>\n

The challenges translate, fundamentally, into the expansion of essential infrastructures for economic and social development. “The members of the Government deliberated the approval of the proposal that divides the current territory of the city of Luena in two, with the municipalities of Luena and Alto Luena, having as a dividing line the river with the same name until the commune of Lucusse, 133 kilometers to the South”, he reinforced. The meeting also analyzed the proposal to decorate, on April 4, five figures who contributed to the development of the region.<\/p>\n

The proposal of the Political-Administrative Division foresees the alteration of the State’s model of municipality, approved by the Council of Ministers, with the division of the provinces of Cuando Cubango and Moxico in two, thus making twenty provinces and the increase from 164 to 581 counties. The proposal envisages creating 19 municipalities for the province of Moxico and for Cassai Zambeze, the likely new province, with 11 jurisdictions.<\/p>\n
