Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Eighty-seven kilometers of National Road 105, in the section that separates the municipalities of Cuanhama\/Ombadja and Namacunde, in Cunene, have been receiving, since Saturday, maintenance works (plug hole), an action of the local administration.<\/b><\/p>\n

The execution of the works covering the main streets of the urban core of the city of Ondjiva, are the responsibility of the Municipal Administration of Cuanhama, within a period of 30 days.<\/p>\n

Speaking to press, in Ondjiva, the administrator of Cuanhama, Jose\u0301 Kalomo, said that the works started in the locality of Oshakati, in the commune of Mo\u0302ngua and ended in Omufituunene, on the border with Namacunde.<\/p>\n

He explained that the intervention on the main road was aimed at improving the road, which has large holes, to allow better circulation of vehicles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are laying tar, as it was previously concrete. It has proved to be not the right material due to the characteristics of our land, especially when it rains\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n

He recalled that this year, there was heavy rain in the area, which ended up degrading the asphalt on road 105 and others in the urban core of Ondjiva, hence this maintenance for its recovery.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Kalomo admitted that potholes have been one of the main causes of road accidents on the road, especially at night, when motorists who are unaware of the section are victims.<\/p>\n

During this year, due to the poor condition of this road, it was the basis of three accidents that resulted in the death of three people and one seriously injured.<\/p>\n

National road 105, also known internationally as Trans-Cunene, is the important road linking Angola to countries in the SADC region, crossing the border from Santa Clara (Cunene) to the country’s capital (Luanda).<\/p>\n

Cunene has a fundamental road network estimated at 1,398.60 kilometers and a complementary 514 kilometres.<\/p>\n

The province has 497 kilometers of paved road in the sections Cahama-Otchinjau, Ondjiva-Ombala-Yo-Mungo, Cahama-Santa Clara and Omala-Cuvelai.<\/p>\n
