Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, ruled out, Wednesday, that there is an institutional crisis in the country, following the suspicions about the outgoing president of the Court of Auditors, Exalgina Gambo\u0302a.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview with the French channel RFI, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o stated that the country is not facing an institutional crisis, having underlined that it was “too strong to say that. Too strong”.<\/p>\n

As for the start of the judicial year, the Head of State said that it began on Wednesday (1) in fact. “What did not happen and why I preferred not to do it is to preside over the solemn act that, as a general rule, marks the start of the judicial year (…)”.<\/p>\n

In view of the latest events, he continued, namely, in one of the courts, I understood that, until this matter is resolved, I should not preside over the solemn opening session of the judicial year.<\/p>\n

Therefore, said President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, he is referring specifically to what is happening in the Court of Auditors.<\/p>\n

Regarding the Supreme Court, the Angolan statesman said that he was aware of the existence of allegations of possible crimes, but that, for the time being, nothing proves the involvement, so far, of the venerable presiding judge of the same court.<\/p>\n

The president of the Angolan Court of Auditors, Exalgina Gambo\u0302a, presented her resignation from the post on Wednesday and the Head of State has already accepted it, according to a note from the Presidency of the Republic.<\/p>\n

By the way, the PGR informed, on Tuesday, that Exalgina Gambo\u0302a was constituted defendant following an investigation that found “possible practices of crimes of embezzlement, extortion and corruption publicly denounced”.<\/p>\n

In the same process, the defendant Haile\u0301 Musape\u0301 Vicente da Cruz was also constituted, for the crimes of extortion and corruption, having not been notified because he was outside the country.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the President of the Republic announced, in a note, that he had invited Exalgina Gambo\u0302a to resign on February 21 due to the various \u201coccurrences\u201d that involved her.<\/p>\n
