Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>An Angolan delegation, headed by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen Neto, is taking part in the eighth International Conference on the Oceans, taking place on the 2nd and 3rd of this month, in the Republic of Panama. <\/b><\/p>\n

Entitled “Our ocean”, the event aims to seek consensus on a possible agreement for the protection of international waters and use satellite technologies to combat illegal fishing, according to a press release sent this Thursday.<\/p>\n

According to this document, the conference, the first of its kind to be held in a Central American country, will also discuss new commitments to promote the blue economy and the expansion of protected marine areas.<\/p>\n

For this event, close to 600 delegates from governments, companies and non-governmental organizations will also assess the numerous initiatives to reduce pollution, with plastics and other waste, as well as ending deep sea mining and financing marine protection projects.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation is also composed by the Ambassador of Angola in Cuba and not resident in Panama, Maria Ca\u0302ndida Pereira Teixeira, director of Marine Affairs, Ta\u0302nia Barreto, assistant director of the Minister’s Office, Sandra Pinheiro, and the minister’s consultant, Reis Jamba, in addition to diplomats from the Angolan mission in Havana (Cuba).<\/p>\n

The event is an initiative of John Kerry, then Secretary of State in the Government of Barack Obama, who promoted, in 2014, a World Conference on the Oceans, to face environmental challenges, as well as seek the sustainable development of the ecosystem.<\/p>\n
