Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>1,500 field schools are expected to be created by 2024 in the provinces of Cuanza Sul and Hui\u0301la, with the aim of increasing production, training farmers and ensuring food self-sufficiency in rural communities.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was released this Monday in the commune of Cada\u0301, municipality of Amboim, by the assistant coordinator of the Project for the Development of Family Agriculture and Marketing (SAMAP), Maria Euge\u0301nia, adding that the process of establishing 750 schools of field in the two regions of the country.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the provinces of Cuanza Sul and Hui\u0301la have agricultural potential for the project to run smoothly, in favor of supporting peasant families.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to continue working towards setting up more field schools, because the main objective is to make peasants increase production rates and also be trained to know how to deal with agricultural inputs and equipment\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

He said that the Institute of Agrarian Development (IDA) will make efforts to continue receiving support from the Executive’s partners, with emphasis on the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in the implementation of policies aimed at family farming.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2018, the SAMAP project aims to increase the production and marketing of products resulting from family farming, mainly crops such as maize, beans, reindeer potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and cabbage.<\/p>\n

The project, implemented in Cuanza Sul and Hui\u0301la, covers 33,544 thousand agricultural families with reinforcement of skills in field schools.<\/p>\n

It has financing of US$28 million and US$800 thousand from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and US$8 million and 200 from the Government of Angola.<\/p>\n

The province of Cuanza Sul has 38 field schools.<\/p>\n
