Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The acting governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, reiterated, this Thursday, the need for the peoples of Southern Africa to continue to value the legacy of the precursors of the battle of Cuito Cuanavale, in order to perpetuate their deeds.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the provincial act of March 23, Liberation Day of Southern Africa, the official noted that the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale represents a turning point of the end of the war that dragged on for years.<\/p>\n

He referred that the battle forced the signing of the New York Accords, giving rise to the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 435\/78, which led to the withdrawal of Cuban forces from Angola, the release of Nelson Mandela and the independence of Namibia.<\/p>\n

He said that the watchwords of the then President of the Republic, Agostinho Neto, according to which “In Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa we are continuing our struggle”, came true.<\/p>\n

It recognized the patriotic spirit and bravery of Angolans, which contributed to the end of Apartheid, the release of Mandela and the establishment of multi-party and multi-racial democracy in South Africa.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the battle is still one of the biggest military clashes of the Angolan post-independence war, in addition to being the longest on the African continent, since the Second World War.<\/p>\n

Under the motto “Honor and glory to the memory of the brave liberators of Southern Africa\u201d, the celebration of March 23rd was marked by the holding of a colloquium on the antecedents of the battle of Cuito Canaval and its benefits in the Southern Region\u201d.<\/p>\n
