Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The executive secretary of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, Onyango Kakoba, urged, this Friday, in Juba, South Sudan, the member states to support the peace initiative of the Angolan President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o. <\/b><\/p>\n

Onyango Kakoba said that the member states of the organization should join the efforts of the Angolan President, whose objective is to achieve peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in the Central African Republic (CAR), in particular, as a way to guarantee the well-being of the populations and the development of the region.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the fact that Angola had made itself available to send a military contingent to the DRC to secure the areas for the cantonment of the M23 elements and protect the members of the Ad-Hoc verification mechanism, following the ceasefire between government troops and the rebels .<\/p>\n

The executive secretary, who was speaking at the opening of the 13th Ordinary Session of the Plenary of the Parliamentary Forum of the CIRGL, said that the end of the conflicts in the region, in a peaceful way, requires the commitment of all Member States, engaging in the actions promoted by the President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

In this regard, he asked the parliaments to promote advocacy actions with the respective governments, so that the initiative of the Angolan statesmen reaches the envisaged objectives.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Vice-President of South Sudan, James Wani Igga, praised the efforts of President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, also highlighting the need for a combination of forces to achieve peace and stability in the region.<\/p>\n

For James Wani Igga, Member States must reinforce their commitment to peace, unity and stability in the region.<\/p>\n

Angola is present at the forum by a delegation headed by the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation brought as current matter of great impact the mediation role of President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o in the pacification of the East of the DRC and the sending, in the coming days, of 500 military personnel to lead the process of quartering the elements of the M23.<\/p>\n

During the event, which runs until April 1, parliamentarians from the region will address issues such as the conflict in eastern DRC, peace and security, the fight against terrorism and natural disasters.<\/p>\n

The CIRG Parliamentary Forum is an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together national deputies from the 12 member states of the CIRGL, namely Angola, Burundi, CAR, Congo, Kenya, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.<\/p>\n
