Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Angola, Nana Ama, reiterated, Thursday, the support to the Angolan Government in preventing, protecting, identifying and combating trafficking in human beings in the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) cross-border forum, the official informed that the organization will continue to cooperate with the Angolan Government in safe accommodation, medical and psychosocial support, training and assisted voluntary return and reintegration of victims of trafficking.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he said that the forum reinforced the partnership and cooperation between the governments of Angola and the DRC, allowing the sharing of technical experiences and information between the commissions in the fight against human trafficking in the common borders.<\/p>\n

The official called for the strengthening of integrated border management, strengthening of migration procedures for appropriate screening, assessment and referral, international cooperation and global partnerships for safe, orderly and regular migration.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the national strategy, countermeasures and ongoing awareness campaigns in Angola will ensure that the media, general public, vulnerable groups and stakeholders understand their role in the ongoing struggle to end human trafficking.<\/p>\n

“The fight against human trafficking is not the responsibility of a single institution, organization or country, it is a collective responsibility, because any one of us can be a victim”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

Since 2014, when the Angolan State began working on the issue of human trafficking, 142 cases have been registered, involving victims and perpetrators from both countries (Angola and DRC).<\/p>\n
