Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL) appealed this Saturday in Juba, South Sudan, to armed groups for an immediate cessation of hostilities and withdrawal from the east from the DRC.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a resolution approved at the end of the 13th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly of the FP-CIGRL, the members of the organization encourage the implementation of the processes of Luanda and Nairobi to achieve peace and stability in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n

They also condemn the attacks against the peacekeeping forces and the employees of humanitarian agencies, urging for the continuous provision of assistance to internally displaced persons, refugees, victims of sexual violence and other vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n

The organization encourages the DRC government to prioritize national unity, reinforce the rule of law, promote political inclusion and peacebuilding.<\/p>\n

The parliamentarians salute the Presidents of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, for the joint effort to support the DRC in the quest for stability in the east of the country.<\/p>\n

The FP-CIRGL also decided to send a fact-finding mission to the east of the DRC, to verify on the ground the efforts to achieve peace.<\/p>\n

For the same purpose, declarations on the current situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan were approved.<\/p>\n

These are resolutions that reinforce the need to achieve peace, through dialogue, to guarantee local and regional stability.<\/p>\n

The parliamentarians also called for the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy as a way of contributing to the development of local communities<\/p>\n

The Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region is an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together national parliamentarians from the 12 member states of the IRGL, namely Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic (CAR), Congo, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.<\/p>\n
