Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Bishop of the Diocese of Ondjiva, Cunene province, Dom Pio Hipunhati, appealed this Monday to the need for Angolans to combine efforts to preserve peace and deepen reconciliation between Angolans.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a statement, on the occasion of the 4th of April (Day of Peace and National Reconciliation), he spoke of the need for Angolans to strive for unity and patriotic spirit, leaving behind messages of contempt, insults and incitement.<\/p>\n

He said that these actions, particularly demonstrated by young people on social networks, undermine the ongoing peace and reconciliation process in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be careful with language, opting for actions of love, friendship, harmonious and peaceful coexistence, to achieve social peace and true reconciliation between brothers\u201d, he underlined.<\/p>\n

The prelate argued that greater reflection is needed on the meaning of true peace and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrue changes in human beings take place in the first place in the soul and spirit, which is why it is necessary that each one eliminate internal conflicts in order to preserve peace, which has cost Angolans so much\u201d, he underlined.<\/p>\n

Ending \u201cinternal conflicts\u201d is essential for achieving spiritual peace and consolidating the process of reconciliation between brothers.<\/p>\n

To this end, he said it was necessary to involve society as a whole, as he considered that “peace should be taken care of and not just political or governmental forces”.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll authors and natural persons must be active members and builders of peace, remembering that each citizen is a firm foundation in the construction of national peace,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

He advised government officials and party leaders to strive for peaceful and unifying speeches, which propose concord and harmony, thus contributing to the consolidation of peace and national reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Pio Hipunhati also warned of the need to de-partisanize public institutions, giving priority to the spirit of Angolan nature.<\/p>\n

The bishop also highlighted the importance of determining the fundamental values \u200b\u200bof patriotism and respect for institutions, in order to be transmitted to young people, towards the rescue of civic and moral values<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the church’s commitment to developing its role in the moralization of society, through the awareness of the populations for the reconciliation of brothers, giving primacy to citizenship and love of neighbor.<\/p>\n

Peace in Angola resulted from the Complementary Memorandum of Understanding to the Lusaka Protocol, signed between the Angolan Government and UNITA, on April 4, 2002, in the city of Luena, Moxico province.<\/p>\n
