Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Despite the authorities’ ban, the disorderly sale of food, clothing, footwear and other goods on the sidewalks in the city of Huambo persists because it is allegedly more profitable than the markets, according to vendors interviewed.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a round carried out, this Monday, it is possible to notice in the different sidewalks of the streets of the cities Alta and Baixa, with emphasis on the avenues of Independe\u0302ncia and Norton de Matos, as well as in the streets of Flores, Largo 21 de Setembro (Pica -pau) and Vicente Ferreira, the disorderly sale of various goods by citizens who claim the intention of wanting to be closer to citizens.<\/p>\n

Fruit seller Ange\u0301lica Andre\u0301 said that the action aims to attract more citizens, before arriving at the markets, in order to buy the products when they are passing through the streets.<\/p>\n

He stated that, although the initiative is wrong and prohibited by the authorities, it is more profitable compared to the markets, as it quickly attracts citizens circulating on public roads.<\/p>\n

For his part, Paulo Eduardo, a shoe salesman, said that placing the products on the sidewalks aims to entice employees who, when entering or leaving their work stations, cannot resist what is on display and end up buying, which would be different whether it was in a formal or informal market.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sold the shoes in the informal market in Quissala, commonly known as Germany, but I saw that my friends earned more because they were on the sidewalks of the city and so I decided to join\u201d he said, despite acknowledging that it was a wrong attitude.<\/p>\n

He recognized that the number of sellers of various goods on the streets and sidewalks does not enhance the image of the city, which could be improved if everyone unanimously abandoned.<\/p>\n

Celestina Bita, a carrot, corn and pepper seller, said that, despite not being the most correct, the action quickly attracted customers who wanted to make quick purchases.<\/p>\n

By the way, the director of Inspection of the municipal administration of Huambo, Cesa\u0301rio Passa said that the institution started, in November 2022, a campaign to raise awareness among citizens about the dangers of selling on sidewalks and verges, a fact that is having effects with the decrease in sales compared to 2022.<\/p>\n

Cesa\u0301rio Passa lamented the fact that many vendors in question claim to be street vendors and, when questioned, confront the authorities, often forcing them to take coercive actions, such as the seizure of products and payment of fines, given the recurrence of not complying with ongoing pedagogical guidelines.<\/p>\n

He appealed to citizens to visit the markets created for this purpose by the Municipal Administration of Huambo, under penalty of being penalized by the authorities.<\/p>\n
