Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The province of Malanje has 106 monuments and historic sites, inventoried as cultural heritage, over the last few years.<\/b><\/p>\n

Of this number, nine have already been classified by the Ministry of Culture and Environment, with emphasis on the Teca-dia-kinda memorial, in the municipality of Quela, where the remains of several heroes of the Baixa de Cassanje massacre, which took place on January 4, 1961.<\/p>\n

The information was given Tuesday, in this city, by the head of the Provincial Department of Culture, Historical Heritage and Traditional Authorities of Malanje, Joa\u0303o Viegas, noting that along with Teca-dia-kinda, the emphasis also falls on the locality de Milando, in the municipality of Quela, both classified as historic sites in April 2022.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, cultural agents Bernardino Felizardo and Kibuku Kianjinje pointed to the lack of access to historic sites as one of the main factors impeding their proper exploitation, which is why they asked for government intervention in the rehabilitation of roads, so that they are increasingly visited and serve as sources of revenue for the State.<\/p>\n

They underlined the importance of monuments in defending the cultural matrix of a people, hence the need for continuous preservation and enhancement.<\/p>\n

Created by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982, World Day for Monuments and Sites is celebrated annually on 18 April.<\/p>\n

The date aims to highlight the importance of monuments and sites in the history and identity of peoples, as well as calling for their preservation and enhancement.<\/p>\n
