Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Cunene provincial office for Culture, Tourism and Youth and Sports is working to survey monuments and sites, with a view to their classification and conservation.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided Tuesday by the head of the Culture, Historical Heritage and Traditional Communities department of Cunene, Ana Anto\u0301nio, on the occasion of the 18th of April, International Day of Monuments and Sites.<\/p>\n

The person in charge made it known that they are working with the municipal administrations, since 2022, for the selection of monuments and historic sites, and so far 42 monuments and sites have been identified.<\/p>\n

The official highlighted the importance of classifying these places, since if they are preserved they will be able to attract tourists and contribute to the collection of revenue for the State coffers.<\/p>\n

Ana Anto\u0301nio recalled that, in 2021, seven sites of national historic interest were classified in Cunene, which constitute a milestone in the history of resistance battles against the South African occupation.<\/p>\n

These are the Naipalala II Bunker, the former Headquarters of the Angolan Border Guard Troops (TGFA) in Mo\u0302ngua, the former Command of the II Infantry Brigade and the Monument Letter from President Fidel de Castro to the Defenders of Cahama, among others.<\/p>\n

The province of Cunene has 14 classified monuments and sites, and 42 still to be classified in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Cuvelai, Namacunde, Ombadja, Curoca and Cahama.<\/p>\n

The International Day of Monuments and Sites, also known as World Heritage Day, is an international celebration celebrated on 18 April.<\/p>\n
