Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Thirteen countries have confirmed their presence at the African Swimming Championship in zone IV, to be held from 3 to 7 May, at the Alvalade swimming pool, in Luanda, it was announced this Wednesday at a press conference.<\/b><\/p>\n

In addition to the host Angola, these are South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, the latter champion in title.<\/p>\n

Among the member countries, only Zimbabwe has not yet confirmed its participation in the competition, where Angola will seek to remain on the podium, after the second place obtained in 2015, in Luanda, with 22 gold, 21 silver and 18 bronze.<\/p>\n

The event foresees the involvement of 320 swimmers, 80 of which are members of the National Team, 60 for pure swimming (in a pool) and 20 for open water (sea).<\/p>\n

From the point of view of participation, Angola marks the 10th presence, after its debut in 2013, where it occupied the 10th position, in Lusaka, in an event that featured the current best sprinter in the 100 and 200m freestyle, Henrique Mascarenhas, at the time with 11 years old.<\/p>\n

In order to achieve the objective of remaining on the podium, the group, which will be completed on Sunday, with the arrival of swimmers from Portugal, England and Spain, will work with the South African coach, Cedric Finch, in the last stage of preparation.<\/p>\n

Among the 80 Angolan swimmers selected, Lia Lima, Maria Freitas, Rafaela Santo, N’hara Fernandes, Inara Santos, Henrique Mascarenhas, Salvador Gordo, Marcos Furtado, Rafael Bredel, David Padre, Djamel Pires and Yano Elias stand out.<\/p>\n
