Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, said this Friday in Luanda that sport plays a fundamental role in the development of the country, presenting itself as a phenomenon associated with cultural and economic life.<\/b><\/p>\n

This social action, according to the interlocutor, has been increasingly known as a vehicle for promoting well-being, health, cultural dimension and social cohesion, democracy, equality and solidarity.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Mauri\u0301cia Calombo Ringote, at the opening of the third conference of the Angolan Association for Women and Sport (AMUD), he said that physical activity also enables studies and advances in the universe of knowledge.<\/p>\n

With regard to \u201cWomen and Sport\u201d, Palmira Barbosa stated that Angola has taken important steps and has had a historical-evolutionary path in recent decades.<\/p>\n

He said that such commitment resulted in a significant increase in the number of women in federated sport and, as a result, greater participation at the head of important decision-making structures in the public and private sphere.<\/p>\n

He added that, despite these valuable achievements, there is an awareness that there is still a long way to go, citing AMUD as one of the partners in the scope of encouraging women to practice sports.<\/p>\n

The meeting is attended by more than a hundred guests and a range of national and foreign producers, including the president of the Cape Verde Olympic Committee, Filomena Fortes, and her Angolan counterpart, Gustavo da Conceic\u0327a\u0303o.<\/p>\n

Among the topics reserved for the morning period, the Minister of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, addressed the topic \u201cGender equality policies and alignment with the objectives of sustainable development\u201d.<\/p>\n

This was followed by the first round table on \u201cObstacles and challenges overcome throughout the sports career and its insertion in society\u201d, a panel that had the testimony of several individuals, such as Palmira Barbosa and Jose\u0301 Armando Sayovo (former athlete of adapted athletics) .<\/p>\n

The AMUD conference will run until Saturday under the motto \u201cInspiring Young Women to Practice Sport\u201d.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony included a cultural act, with emphasis on the performance of the theater group Horizonte Nzinga Mbabdi.<\/p>\n
