Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Christians from different religious denominations in Cunene province took part this Sunday in an ecumenical service of thanksgiving for the 21 years of peace and national reconciliation, aiming at the preservation and maintenance of this asset.<\/b><\/p>\n

The service held at the facilities of the Tocoi\u0301sta Church, was promoted by the National Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA), in which the faithful launched messages of solidarity and intercession in favor of peace, of the various projects underway in the region, with particular emphasis on famine and drought.<\/p>\n

With praises and songs, issues related to forgiveness and reconciliation among Angolans were addressed, as well as the steps to be taken towards the development of the country.<\/p>\n

In his sermon, the representative of CICA in Cunene, Reverend Joa\u0303o Anto\u0301nio Gimbi urged a change in the citizens’ mentality, above all, the youth who promote actions aimed at exalting hatred and disagreements, instead of love and peace.<\/p>\n

He explained that citizens should continue to hope for better days and know how to recognize the advances that the country has registered since the achievement of peace.<\/p>\n

Based on the biblical text “John 14:27”, the reverend highlighted that religious institutions, as God’s representatives on Earth, have a great responsibility to defend and teach ethical values, citizenship and preservation of good customs in the country, as well as the word of God so that one can live in harmony and peace.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Deputy Municipal Administrator for the Political, Social and Community area of \u200b\u200bCuanhanha, Antonieta Gerson, explained the importance of preserving the values \u200b\u200bof Peace, Love, Solidarity and Mutual Respect in society.<\/p>\n

The person in charge thanked the mass and the massive presence of the people of God at the event, a fact that demonstrates the will and importance of continuing to promote and preserve this good.<\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201cCunene, do not fear, because I am with you!\u201d, the service marked the end of the days commemorating the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, marked on 4 April.<\/p>\n

Peace in Angola resulted from the Complementary Memorandum of Understanding to the Lusaka Protocol, signed between the Angolan Government and UNITA, on April 4, 2002, in the city of Luena, Moxico province.<\/p>\n
