Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>1,926 tourists, including nationals and foreigners, visited, from January to March this year, the Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo, Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in the province of Zaire.<\/b><\/p>\n

The figure represents an increase of 714 tourists, compared to the same period of 2022, according to the head of the Museum of the Kings of Kongo, Kediamosiko Toko.<\/p>\n

Speaking this Monday, the tourist guide also detailed that 67 foreign tourists traveled to Mbanza Kongo, in the period under review, against the 34 registered in the same period of the previous year.<\/p>\n

Foreigners come from Portugal, the United States of America (USA), Brazil, Spain and the Netherlands (Holland).<\/p>\n

As for the nationals, he said that most of them were students integrated in delegations for academic research and workers from different parts of the country.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, Kediamosiko Toko defended the need to create a specific diploma, which allows the collection of fees from visitors for access to local historical sites and monuments, with emphasis on the Museum of the Kings of Kongo.<\/p>\n

Among the most visited sites, according to the source, the highlights are the Museum of the Kings of Kongo, the ruins of the old Cathedral (Kulumbimbi), the Sungila (place where the deceased kings were embalmed), the millenary tree \u201cYala Nkuwu, the cemetery of the kings of Kongo, among others.<\/p>\n

The Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo was inscribed, on July 8, 2017, as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, given its rich material and immaterial cultural source.<\/p>\n
