Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, encouraged this Wednesday, in the city of Menongue, Cuando Cubango province, the parties involved in the armed conflict in Sudan to establish a ceasefire, in order to negotiate a definitive peace.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the meeting of the military leaders of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o defended the end of the war in this country in the Great Lakes region.<\/p>\n

Armed clashes in Sudan began on 15 April between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/p>\n

In just a few days, the conflict claimed hundreds of lives, creating thousands of internally displaced people and refugees in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the Angolan statesman said that the world is following with great attention and concern the tension on the Korean peninsula, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel region, in Africa, in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

In his speech, President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o also expressed concern about the conflict in Ukraine, which has persisted for more than a year and risks gaining proportions that threaten, more and more, world peace and security.<\/p>\n

According to the Angolan Head of State, everything must be done to avoid the escalation of this armed conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is necessary for there to be a dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, for the establishment of a ceasefire that opens the way for the negotiation of a definitive peace\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

For Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected, as enshrined in International Law and in the Charter of the United Nations, which everyone is obliged to respect.<\/p>\n

As a result of his commitment to peace on the continent, the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, was designated “Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa”.<\/p>\n

The title is the result of Angola’s efforts with Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o at the head of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region in the search for peace, dialogue and stability in various countries of the continent’s birthplace.<\/p>\n
