Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>With the entry into operation, this month, of the last phase of the infrastructures of the Lau\u0301ca Hydroelectric Facility, in Malanje, this constitutes, currently, a great matrix for clean and environmentally friendly energy in the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

Located in the province of Malanje, the Lau\u0301ca Hydroelectric Facility (AH), which is the largest in Angola, saw its first turbine (out of a total of six) inaugurated in 2017, and, this Friday (12), the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, witnessed the end of the works, and unveiled the plaque of the 65.5 MW Ecological Power Station.<\/p>\n

The Ecological Power Station aims to restore, from the project point of view, the flow between the Dam and the Main Power Station, which are separated by 2 kilometers, so that there is no void and the river bed is completed, protecting the fauna and local flora.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Lau\u0301ca Hydroelectric Facility started to produce, this month, its total installed capacity of 2,070 MW.<\/p>\n

The structures that make up the AH de Lau\u0301ca have advanced technologies and efficient engineering capable of developing the best projects and solutions.<\/p>\n

The main ones are:<\/p>\n

Dam 1,070 meters long and 156 meters high that forms a reservoir with an area of \u200b\u200b188 square kilometers (km2).<\/p>\n

Water intake with 75 meters of height formed by 6 units, which give access to 6 shafts of 60 meters and access to penstocks that total 12 km of tunnels.<\/p>\n

Main Plant 100% underground, comprising 6 powerful Francis-type generating units with 334 MW of capacity each.<\/p>\n

Numbers<\/p>\n

The work comprises 5.2 million cubic meters of open-air excavations; 1.8 million cubic meters in underground excavations; 3.5 million cubic meters of concrete.<\/p>\n

The project was developed by the Government of Angola, through the Ministry of Energy and Water, represented by GAMEK, and built by Odebrecht (OEC). Supervision of project execution was carried out by the companies Coba and Lahmeyer.<\/p>\n

Lau\u0301ca currently serves 40% of the country’s energy demand, with a total annual production capacity of 9,000 GWh.<\/p>\n
