Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA), in partnership with the Lutheran Federation, announced this Thursday in Ondjiva that they will participate more actively in efforts to curb the impacts of climate change on rural communities in Angola province. Cunene.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided by the general secretary of CICA in Angola, Deolinda Dorcas Teca, on the sidelines of a meeting with the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, stressing that the intention is to implement the plan to reduce the consequences of the drought.<\/p>\n

He said that the churches work with faith-based organizations in different projects to assist people affected by the lack of rain.<\/p>\n

By way of example, he said that the plan for building water reservoirs in different communities is currently underway.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he pointed out the distribution of food items and the participation of churches in the \u201csolidary embrace\u201d project.<\/p>\n

Deolinda Teca said that Cunene, as it is the area where strong climate changes are taking place, it is essential to listen to communities about the consequences of this phenomenon, as well as to raise awareness.<\/p>\n

For this reason, he ensured the forum’s action in educating the communities, on how to combat the consequences of the drought, preventing it by looking at issues of community resilience.<\/p>\n

He said that the issue of climate change is a worldwide phenomenon, which requires a joint effort between the government, churches and civil society, to work on responses to the consequences of the drought that affect families.<\/p>\n

He added that the intention is to contribute to the issue linked to climate change through education, awareness and mobilization, in order to reduce the impact of this phenomenon.<\/p>\n

The general secretary of CICA considered the meeting with the government positive, which once again recognized the partnership with the church and the work that faith-based organizations have performed in support of the affected communities.<\/p>\n

In addition to the concerns raised by the churches, he said that the meeting allowed for greater clarification on the legalization of land owned by churches.<\/p>\n

CICA is a non-profit organization that brings together 22 Christian churches and two faith-based organizations, all recognized by the Angolan government.<\/p>\n

The Lutheran World Federation (FLM) is a supranational entity that unites several Lutheran affiliation churches in 75 countries of the world, founded in 1947 in Sweden.<\/p>\n
