Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The main basins of Kwanza, Longa, Catumbela and Cunene, in Angola, have a total hydroelectric potential estimated at 18 thousand megawatts of energy.<\/b><\/p>\n

A large part of that potential is concentrated in the Middle Kwanza Corridor, in the Capanda (Malange) and Cambambe (Kwanza Norte) segments, along a 100 kilometer route, according to the Minister of Energy and Water.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges informed, this Saturday, in Caculo-Cabac\u0327a, that the<\/p>\n

Capanda\/Cambambe segment has a potential of around seven thousand megawatts.<\/p>\n

Said potential provides<\/p>\n

an electricity production capacity of hydro dams and thermal power stations, in the aforementioned segment, in the order of 5,954.19 megawatts.<\/p>\n

The country’s hydro potential contributes to the national energy matrix with 3,648.82 megawatts, 61.28% of the total, with 10 power plants whose distribution lines work in synchrony with the North, Center, South and East regions.<\/p>\n

With these figures, the Minister of Energy and Water, Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges, considers that the country is “blessed by God”, with Angola having one of the greatest hydrological potentials on the African continent.<\/p>\n

The official, who took part in the ceremony for the diversion of the river Kwanza, honored by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, said that the Caculo-Cabac\u0327a Hydroelectric Facility will have an installed capacity of 2,172 megawatts.<\/p>\n

For Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges, the Angolan Executive is committed to energy security goals, producing increasingly cheaper and more inclusive energy.<\/p>\n

He said that the strategy is part of the energy transition, through the construction of a greener matrix, with a focus on leveraging the national economy.<\/p>\n

“As representatives of the owner of the work, our mission, in the project, will be to ensure compliance with the contractual obligations signed with the different players in this process”, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the high concern and priority of the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, is notorious, who projects a development of the energy sector in the country, robust, modern and inclusive.<\/p>\n

He said that Angola will continue to guide the projection of the construction of future undertakings, relevant in the water and energy security strategy, in the medium and long term.<\/p>\n

He considered it fundamental that this projection takes into account the last two levels of the Middle Kwanza, namely the Zenzo and Tumulo do Cac\u0327ador mini-hydro plants, which total 1,400 megawatts.<\/p>\n

Eventually, with the participation of private capital and taking advantage of the window of opportunities, it is foreseen, among others, the production of green hydrogen and the implantation of electro-intensive industries, according to the official.<\/p>\n

Also in terms of investment in electricity production in Angola, emphasis should be given to the completion, this year, of the rehabilitation and expansion of the Matala power stations, in Hui\u0301la, which goes from 18 to 40 megawatts of capacity, that of Luachimo, in Lunda-Norte, which goes from 8 to 34 megawatts.<\/p>\n
