Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The African continent continues the struggle to eradicate poverty, illiteracy, various endemic diseases and hunger, caused by cyclical food crises, at a time when it celebrates, this Thursday, the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Organization of African Unity (OR THE).<\/b><\/p>\n

This position is expressed in a note regarding the date, released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), which states that, 60 years later, numerous challenges still remain for the full achievement of the objectives proposed by the founding fathers of the OAU.<\/p>\n

In the document, he stresses that the continent also faces the harmful consequences of climate change, is the scene of armed conflicts, terrorist actions, unconstitutional changes of government and is now seeking to recover from the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

All these factors, he adds, weaken collective efforts to improve the well-being and quality of life of Africans, the image of the continent and its institutions, as well as the ability to influence the international arena.<\/p>\n

Likewise, underlines the Mirex note, the worrying exodus of young Africans to Europe constitutes an additional challenge, insofar as it deprives the continent of valuable labor and, above all, of the creative capacity of youth for the much-needed development multidimensional, namely in the social, economic, cultural and technological domains.<\/p>\n

For this reason, it underlines that the governmental action and policies of the Member States must continue to be, unequivocally, focused on the legitimate aspirations of young people and the reinforcement of the empowerment of African women as an indispensable tool in the fight against unemployment, hunger and poverty.<\/p>\n

He adds that in the search for solutions to its problems, Africa should increasingly focus on promoting good governance practices, participatory democracy, greater social inclusion and guaranteeing the necessary conditions for achieving and maintaining peace.<\/p>\n

As we celebrate Africa’s 60th anniversary, \u201cwe cannot fail to highlight the boldness of African leaders who, determined to lift the continent out of underdevelopment, decided to launch visionary initiatives, such as Agenda 2063, which defines the pillars and crucial stages for the continent overcomes the less good moment in which it finds itself\u201d.<\/p>\n

In the declaration, Mirex also welcomed the theme chosen by the African Union (AU) for this year \u201cAccelerating the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area\u201d, a common market of around 1.3 billion people.<\/p>\n

It also emphasizes that, in the current process of African integration, the Member States must consolidate the values \u200b\u200band principles of solidarity, respect for cultural heritage, as well as reinforce the incessant search for solutions to silence the guns and the construction of \u201cAfrica We Want\u201d, allowing the continent to definitively occupy its legitimate space in the global system.<\/p>\n

Africa celebrates the 25th of May, the day established with the creation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, through the visionary action of about two dozen African leaders moved by ideals of freedom, unity, development and an unquestionable feeling pan-africanist.<\/p>\n
