Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The 2nd session of the Regional Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Meeting between the Angolan provinces of Moxico and Zambia of the West takes place on Thursday, in the city of Luena.<\/b><\/p>\n

For this purpose, a delegation from the Western province of Zambia, headed by its minister (governor), Kapelwa Mbangweta, arrived today, Monday, having started the program with visits to the Provincial Maternity Hospital of Moxico, General Hospital, Instituto Superior Polite\u0301cnico and Centro Children’s Center Heroes of Cangamba.<\/p>\n

The agenda also reserves a trip, on Tuesday, for delegations from Moxico and the Western province to the border municipality of Luau, 334 kilometers east of Luena.<\/p>\n

Visits are also planned to the Luau Agrarian Institute (ITAL), inaugurated last April, to the General Sapilinha Sambalanga Airport, to the works of the Municipal Hospital and the Border Post.<\/p>\n

This meeting is taking place in response to the first one, held from 24 to 26 April last, in the city of Mongu, capital of the Oeste province, in which the Moxico delegation was led by the governor Ernesto Muangala.<\/p>\n

In the unprecedented event, resulting from the guidelines of the Presidents of the Republic of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, the leaders signed several cooperation agreements that will be evaluated periodically through these meetings.<\/p>\n

Emphasis is placed, for example on the health sector, on the intention to establish a system of communication and referral between the health systems of Moxico and the western province.<\/p>\n

At a time when more than 3,000 Angolans are seeking health services in that Zambian province every month, the cooperation will allow for the control of malaria among the population in border areas, management of medicines, essential products and programs for the exchange of professionals.<\/p>\n

As for education, Moxico intends to reap the experience of Zambia to better explore the Instituto Te\u0301cnico Agra\u0301rio (ITAL), operating in the municipality of Luau, in addition to the technologies used to promote agriculture.<\/p>\n

In terms of trade, on the Angolan side, the idea is to boost the agro-food sector, to promote employability and income generation, while the Western province will be able to export the products produced, from dairy products, agricultural inputs, as well as technology used in cereal production.<\/p>\n

Issues of security, trade, tourism, gender equality, among other sectors, are also included in the \u201cMongu Memorandum\u201d.<\/p>\n

The provinces of Moxico and Western Zambia have a historical and geographical relationship that dates back to the times of the Struggle for National Independence, sharing an extensive common border and cultural and linguistic affinities.<\/p>\n

The current cooperation between the two provinces, whose countries are members of the Community for the Development of Southern Africa (SADC, acronym in English), aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two peoples, as well as to promote the social and economic development of the region.<\/p>\n
