Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, was invited by his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel, to participate in the Summit of the “Group of 77” plus China, to take place in Havana, Cuba, on the 15th and 16th of September of the current year.<\/b><\/p>\n

The invitation was transmitted verbally by the Cuban ambassador to Angola, Esther Cardenas, who Friday, was received in audience by the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

The Group of 77 is a coalition of developing nations, which aims to promote the collective economic interests of its members and create greater joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations (UN).<\/p>\n

The group was founded on June 15, 1964 by the “Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Countries”, issued at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).<\/p>\n

The first major meeting was in Algiers in 1967, when the Charter of Algiers was adopted and the basis for permanent institutional structures was laid.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press at the end of the audience, Esther Cardenas said that the presence of the Head of State at this summit will be \u201chighly useful\u201d and will help in the deliberations of the meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis meeting will take place at a very specific moment, where the union of all developing peoples will be able to help to speak with a single voice\u201d, he expressed.<\/p>\n

The Republic of Cuba currently assumes the Presidency of the \u201cGroup of 77\u201d.<\/p>\n

Angola and Cuba maintain strong political-diplomatic relations. They cooperate in the fields of education, commerce, agriculture, security, telecommunications, health and industry.<\/p>\n
