Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The managers of the Provincial Water and Sanitation Companies (EPAS) in Hui\u0301la, Namibe, Cunene and Cuando Cubango were challenged to read and correctly interpret the sector’s intrusive regulators, recently approved by the Executive, in order to better decide their actions.<\/b><\/p>\n

These are the regulations on Commercial Relations, Quality of Services, Regulatory Information and the Sanctions Regime, whose recommendation to master them was made on Friday, in the city of Lubango.<\/p>\n

The challenge is expressed in the final communique\u0301 of the Southern Regional Workshop on Water and Sanitation, which took place under the motto “Sustainability of Management Entities, Challenges and Perspectives”, promoted by the Regulatory Institute of Electricity and Water Services (IRSEA).<\/p>\n

The event, the first of five that are scheduled for this year, four of which are regional in scope and one nationwide, took place over two days, reflected and shared the role of the regulatory authority in the water sector, the economic and financial situation of water and sanitation companies in this part of the country.<\/p>\n

The workshop was attended by the PCA and respective administrators of the EPAS, deputy municipal administrators of the province of Hui\u0301la, representatives of the PEDISA II projects and the national directorate of water and sanitation.<\/p>\n

According to the document, the management entities are responsible for having production, distribution, billing and collection data and that these must be shared with the regulator and for a better analysis of tariff responses it is necessary to master the regulations in question.<\/p>\n

Water companies were also recommended to be concerned about presenting their operational data and their commercial situation, since investments are made by the Central Government, so they must plan them, depending on the needs for them to be sustainable.<\/p>\n

The participants concluded that management entities are not yet present in all extensions of the provinces, with Hui\u0301la being in just three (Lubango, Jamba and Cacula) of the 14 municipalities, with the prospect of installing them in Chibia, Quipungo and Matala.<\/p>\n

In the province of Cuando Cubango, EPAS is operating in three of the nine municipalities, Cunene, of the six municipalities, only operates in four and EPAS Namibe is the only one operating in the five municipalities that make up the province.<\/p>\n
