Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, was concerned about the disrespect for the basic principles of democracy in Africa, through the seizure of political power by unconstitutional means.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the conference in reference to the 15th anniversary of the Constitutional Court (TC), Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o said that in the case of Angola, \u201cthere are those who have never recognized the election results, showing that they do not respect the sovereign will of the people expressed in the ballot boxes\u201d .<\/p>\n

According to the Angolan President, \u201cState institutions and civil society that is patriotic and committed to democracy leave a clear message to those who seek to reach power through improper paths and unconstitutional means\u201d.<\/p>\n

We are witnesses, continued Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, of situations like these where the assault on power was embodied in the effective assault on the centers of Executive power, in some cases, and Legislative power in others, fortunately neutralized for the sake of the survival of democracy.<\/p>\n

According to President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, the world continues to face several challenges to universal peace and security, being threatened by the maintenance and emergence of new armed conflicts.<\/p>\n

For the Angolan statesman, the aforementioned conflicts bring with them a humanitarian, food and energy crisis, at the same time that they are also confronted with climate change and its serious consequences.<\/p>\n

The Constitutional Court celebrates, on the 17th of this month, the 15th anniversary of its institutionalization.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the event, the TC promotes various actions from the 15th to the 30th of this month, with the aim of encouraging public debate around its role as guardian of the Constitution of the Republic.<\/p>\n
