Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Preventive treatment is one of the fundamental solutions for reducing oral diseases, said Thursday the Secretary of State for Public Health, Carlos Pinto de Sousa.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during the International Deontology Congress in Angola, he stressed that one of the purposes of the Executive’s action in this sector is linked to the preventive and training side.<\/p>\n

He made it known that in the next five years, the Government intends to train a total of 38 thousand health professionals, including in the deontological specialty.<\/p>\n

According to the official, there is a training plan at country level that will be intensified in all areas of knowledge, in particular in the specific area of \u200b\u200bdentistry.<\/p>\n

He advanced that after its consolidation, in parallel, it will focus on primary health care and, for that, the government is working on a project that will allow, in the short, medium and long term, to respond to current and future challenges.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out that the National Health Development Plan 2012-2025 has outlined goals that include, among others, equipment and placement of specialized technicians in the primary, secondary and tertiary network.<\/p>\n

It is also envisaged, he said, to create a dental prosthesis center per province and raise the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices in the community on oral hygiene and eating habits.<\/p>\n

According to the official, for the country to register significant advances in oral health, it is necessary to educate young people, so that everyone adopts a healthy lifestyle, choosing a balanced diet, low in sugar and rich in fruit and vegetables.<\/p>\n

Among the risk factors he spoke of smoking, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and an unhealthy diet with a high level of sugar.<\/p>\n

According to the WHO, the prevalence of oropharyngeal cancer is high, particularly among middle-aged men.<\/p>\n

In turn, the national coordinator of the oral health programme, Djamila Oliveira, said that around a thousand dentists are controlled at country level.<\/p>\n
