Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The permanent representative of the Mission of Angola to the United Nations (UN) in New York, ambassador Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz, highlighted, Thursday (15), the importance of holding the 3rd High Level Conference on Combat to Terrorism, which takes place from the 19th to the 20th of June this year.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note from the Institutional Communication and Press Services of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Angola to the UN that press had access to, for the diplomat terrorism is a matter of concern for international peace and security and no country is immune to its threat, which represents a fundamental challenge for the international community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt undermines the rule of law, respect for human rights, the protection of civilians, tolerance among people and the peaceful resolution of conflicts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The diplomat made these considerations at the African Group Meeting, which had as one of the main points on the agenda the informal consultation with the UN Assistant General Secretary, Amina J. Mohammed, on the Secretary General’s consultation document on the Bridgetown initiative.<\/p>\n

During his speech, he recalled that at the proposal of the Angolan President, the 16th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union was held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, in May 2022, which aimed to analyze in detail the root causes and adopt measures to prevent and combat terrorism and unconstitutional changes of government in Africa.<\/p>\n

In this perspective, he invited the African Union (AU) and Member States to take advantage of the 3rd United Nations Week Against Terrorism to convey a common position, as decided by the Heads of State in Malabo, sending a unified and coordinated message from Africa on this worrying issue.<\/p>\n

The Bridgetown initiative aims to address the immediate needs of countries facing debt problems and liquidity challenges, which proposes a large-scale Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) stimulus package to invest in them, as well as underscores the need for reform of the international financial architecture.<\/p>\n
