Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Anto\u0301nio Tiago Dias, promised, this Monday, to work with zeal and dedication, to implement monetary policy measures, having as a goal the stability of prices and of the Kwanza, the currency national. <\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, after taking office, Manuel Anto\u0301nio Tiago Dias also promised to work towards the appreciation of the Kwanza, a challenge he considers to be arduous.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not an easy task (…), we have everyone’s support. We count on the help of commercial banks in order to play their role\u201d, said the governor of the BNA.<\/p>\n

Manuel Anto\u0301nio Tiago Dias said that commercial banks should be the catalyst for the Angolan economy, as he understands that the stability of prices and the national currency depends on national production.<\/p>\n

For the BNA governor, the greater the diversification of the economy, with emphasis on export revenues, the greater the stability of prices.<\/p>\n

He informed that he also has the support of the Government, because he understands that matters related to the diversification of the economy are, fundamentally, the responsibility of the Executive.<\/p>\n

With regard to this measure, Manuel Tiago Dias informed that the BNA will take policy measures on a collegial basis.<\/p>\n

In this context, it announced that a meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee would be held next month (July).<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom now on we will resort to the monetary policy instruments at our disposal so that we can stabilize what is currently happening\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n

Regarding the current inflation, he said it is a permanent challenge for the National Bank of Angola, being necessary to know that the central bank manages the International Reserves but has no interference with regard to oil production and their respective prices on the world market.<\/p>\n

Profile<\/p>\n

Manuel Anto\u0301nio Tiago Dias was appointed by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, as governor of the BNA, replacing Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano, who, at his request, recently left the mandate.<\/p>\n

He holds a master’s degree in Economic Sciences from the University of Bordeaux, in France.<\/p>\n

He joined the BNA in 1997, where he held various positions until his appointment, in 2016, as deputy governor.<\/p>\n

He also served as director of the Department of Statistics, sub-director of the Department of Studies and Statistics and head of the Division of Studies and Statistics.<\/p>\n
