Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola is participating, until Friday (23), in the 3rd United Nations High Level Conference on Combating Terrorism, taking place in New York, in the United States of America (USA).<\/b><\/p>\n

The Conference, which opened on Monday, presents itself as an opportunity for the international community to renew and develop current multilateral efforts aimed at combating terrorism, under the auspices of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the heads of counter-terrorism agencies and interested parties will analyze the main priorities in the fight against this evil, in the light of the four pillars of the UN Global Strategy, according to a note from the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

Under the motto “Combating terrorism through reinvigorated multilateralism and institutional cooperation”, the Conference will also serve as a starting point for the preparation of the New Agenda for Peace, proposed by the UN Secretary General.<\/p>\n

This is an agenda proposed by Anto\u0301nio Guterres in his report on “Our Common Agenda”, a document that will also serve for the African Summit on the Fight against Terrorism, scheduled for 2024, in the Federative Republic of Nigeria. The 3rd<\/p>\n

Conference Committee on Combating Terrorism is part of the activities of the Third Week on Combating Terrorism, which runs from June 19 to 23.<\/p>\n

Combating Terrorism Week is a biennial meeting of Member States and international partners in the fight against this phenomenon. Interrelated segments are planned for this year, with around 40 parallel events.<\/p>\n

UN Global Strategy against Terrorism<\/p>\n

The UN General Assembly adopted, by consensus, the UN Global Strategy against Terrorism on 8 September 2006. The said mechanism is a unique global instrument to enhance national, regional and international efforts to combat terrorism.<\/p>\n

The General Assembly reviews the Strategy every two years, making it a document synchronized with Member States’ counter-terrorism priorities.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation is being headed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a.<\/p>\n
