Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Several families in the municipality of Cuango, in Lunda Norte, said this Wednesday that the implementation of the “Kwenda” Social Monetary Transfer Program has contributed to mitigating levels of socio-economic vulnerability.<\/b><\/p>\n

Since the implementation of the program in the municipality of Cuango, in 2021, 22,939 vulnerable families, out of the 25,718 expected, have already benefited from two transfers, with each household receiving around 76,500 kwanzas.<\/p>\n

Two thousand and 779 households still to be paid who did not show up at the time of payments for various reasons.<\/p>\n

The beneficiary Ana Maria Ju\u0301lio, 49 years old, resident of the Ngonga Soares neighborhood, seat of the municipality of Cuango, said that with the amount she received in the two installments, she was able to set up a business that allows her to support her family and the school of the four children.<\/p>\n

He said that the amounts of the next payment will be used to increase his business and bet on family farming.<\/p>\n

The beneficiary Joaquim Cambolo, 58 years old, father of 18 children, said that the amounts received in the two installments were used to pay the expenses of the treatment he was undergoing at the Municipal Hospital of Cuango, after paralysis in his lower limbs.<\/p>\n

\u201cKwenda saved my life, because with the amounts I received, I was able to buy medication to treat the paralysis in my legs and my tooth decay, and the next amount I receive I will invest in family farming\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

In turn, the beneficiary Ine\u0302s Tiago, 29, said that she invested the amount in agriculture and precarious trade, facts that contributed significantly to mitigating the levels of vulnerability in which she found herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, thanks to this amount, I have a farm where four young people work and produce cassava, sweet potatoes, okra, corn, ginger and I also set up a stall where I sell products from the basic basket\u201d, he underlined.<\/p>\n

program, made it known that with the amount he received, he completed the construction of his own T3 house.<\/p>\n

For her part, the beneficiary Catarina Pedro, 28 years old, said that as a result of the business she started to develop, embodied in the sale of basic basket products, she is now able to pay rent for the house and her son’s school.<\/p>\n

On the initiative of the Government of Angola, the KWENDA program aims to support one million and 608 thousand families in situations of poverty and vulnerability in the country.<\/p>\n

It has funding of USD 320 million from the World Bank (BM) and USD 100 million from the National Treasury (Angola), totaling USD 420 million.<\/p>\n

The Program is operated by the Local Development Institute (FAS), a governmental agency that, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities.<\/p>\n
