Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Friday marks the International Day of Olympism, also known as Olympic Day, this date being a tribute to the creation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), founded on June 23, 1894. <\/b><\/p>\n

This year (2023), it has the privilege of being celebrated close to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in France.<\/p>\n

From an initiative of the French Pierry de Fre\u0301dy (known as Baron de Coubertin), the Olympic Committee came up with the proposal to rescue the spirit of competition of the ancient Olympic Games that were held in ancient Greece.<\/p>\n

The first Modern Olympic Games were held in the city of Athens, Greece, between the 6th and 15th of April 1896. Currently, the Olympic Games are held every 4 years and in different countries of the world.<\/p>\n

During Olympic Day, various activities are organized that seek to remind the community at large about the principles of \u201cexercise, learn and discover\u201d.<\/p>\n

In Angola, for example, the date is also celebrated.<\/p>\n

As part of this day, the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA) holds the so-called “Olympic Week” in several provinces of the country.<\/p>\n

Officially, there are more than 40 Olympic sports.<\/p>\n
