Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Permanent Representatives of Angola and Algeria at the United Nations headquarters, in New York, Tuesday assessed the need for adequate funding to face the growing challenges of terrorist threats and violent extremism on the African continent.<\/b><\/p>\n

During a meeting between Ambassador Francisco da Cruz and his Algerian counterpart, Amar Bendjama, the diplomats highlighted the peace and security pillar as priority topics on the agenda of both countries, as well as the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

With regard to peace and security, they took the opportunity to review the consequences of the United Nations High-Level Conference on Combating Terrorism and agreed on the need to implement the decisions issued by the 16th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of AU on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

According to a note sent, they underlined the priorities of the two countries with the International Organization, emphasizing, still, the need to continue to cooperate in the defense of common interests and greater coordination in the definition of priorities between the African Group, in New York, and the African Union Commission based in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).<\/p>\n

The friendly and cooperative relations between Angola and Algeria date back to the struggle for Angola’s independence, when diplomatic, material and military support provided by the North African country was crucial.<\/p>\n

In the post-independence period, Algeria started to support Angola in training the first Angolan staff, particularly in the oil sector.<\/p>\n
