Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Four hundred and 50 million Kwanzas is the amount that customers owe to the Sanitation and Water Company of Ui\u0301ge do Ui\u0301ge (EASU), said Wednesday, its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Emi\u0301lia Fernandes. <\/b><\/p>\n

Of that amount, which has dragged on since 2017, 45 million are debts contracted by public institutions, 375 million by individuals and the rest by private companies (hotels, restaurants, clinics and commercial establishments).<\/p>\n

Emi\u0301lia Fernandes, who was speaking about how EASU works, informed that only 69 percent of the total of 35,000 registered customers pay for the water they consume.<\/p>\n

He said that the debt contracted by customers has created serious constraints for the company, especially in the payment of salaries, acquisition of chemical products, reagents, among other materials for the maintenance of pipes and other services.<\/p>\n

The official explained that the company records a high rate of water loss, which is around 45 percent of its revenues, associated with the mining of the liquid.<\/p>\n

As a result, Emi\u0301lia Fernandes said that they have been cutting water supply to debtor customers, opening new payment points, as well as carrying out awareness campaigns and collections in the neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n

Ui\u0301ge will have a new water supply system<\/p>\n

Emi\u0301lia Fernandes announced, for the near future, the installation of a new water supply system, which will make it possible to make 15,000 home connections on the outskirts of the city of Ui\u0301ge.<\/p>\n

He clarified that the new project will have the capacity to capture 16 thousand cubic meters of water, as well as new reservoirs and a new treatment plant.<\/p>\n

In addition to the 15,000 connections, the official said that the capital of the province will soon have a pilot project for basic sanitation, construction of latrines and wastewater treatment.<\/p>\n

Regarding the other municipalities, he said that construction work on new water supply projects is underway in the municipalities of Maquela do Zombo and Damba.<\/p>\n
