Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The project to interconnect the electricity system in eastern Angola begins construction at the end of this year, with a 495-kilometre electricity transmission line, to be supported by 1,400 towers.<\/b><\/p>\n

Presented this Friday in Chitato, the project aims to connect the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico and provide around 300 megawatts of energy generated in energy projects in operation and under construction in the region and from the Lau\u0301ca dams. , Capanda, Cambambe and the Soyo combined cycle (under construction).<\/p>\n

According to Si\u0301lvio Carvalho, representative of the company Holi\u0301sticos, responsible for the study of the project’s environmental impact, the start of the contract, scheduled for the end of this year, depends on the financial availability on the part of the Government.<\/p>\n

He said that the construction of the transmission network and the four substations would take five years.<\/p>\n

Without mentioning the costs of the contract, he informed that the work will start in the new electrical substation (SE) in Dundo (Lunda Norte) and will end in the SE in Camanongue (Moxico), with a total length of approximately 495 kilometers of overhead lines.<\/p>\n

The electrical substation in Saurimo (Lunda Sul), he said, will have the capacity to receive 400 kV from the central-north network.<\/p>\n

Si\u0301lvio Carvalho assured that during the operation phase, a 45-metre-wide protection strip will be built along the line and a buffer zone will be maintained, for access to the towers for maintenance purposes.<\/p>\n

The project is part of the “Optimization and Sustainable Management of the Electricity Sector” program of the Ministry of Energy and Water.<\/p>\n

Currently, the installed capacity for generating electricity in the east is over 80 megawatts.<\/p>\n

In Angola, the energy matrix has the potential of hydropower, thermal power stations and solar panels, which work in synchrony between five regions of the country.<\/p>\n
