Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The director of Social Action, Family and Gender Equality in Cuanza Sul, Marta Muhongo, defended, this Monday, in Sumbe, a greater contribution of women in the decisive processes of African nations, in order to contribute to the strengthening of unity and of building the continent.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening act of the activities alluding to the 31st of July, African Women’s Day, the official recalled that the female class has always played an important role in the sustainable development of countries, constituting a fundamental pillar for the continued growth of the African continent.<\/p>\n

For this reason, it encouraged women to continue to play their leading role in society, transmitting civic and moral values \u200b\u200bto strengthen the cohesion and unity of families.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Africa, women make up more than 50 percent of the population and ensure the well-being of families. Therefore, their empowerment is a fundamental need to achieve gender equality. In Angola, in particular, this fringe has conquered its space and is represented in the legislative, judicial and executive powers\u201d, she stressed.<\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201cThe challenges of female leadership in Africa and its borders\u201d, government members, religious leaders, traditional authorities, women from various social strata, among other guests, participated in the act.<\/p>\n

African Women’s Day was established on July 31, 1962, in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, by 14 countries and eight national liberation movements, at the Conference of African Women, with the aim of joining efforts for their emancipation, with a view to the integration and future of the African continent.<\/p>\n
