Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan authorities have registered, in the last 8 years, 142 cases of human trafficking, revealed this Monday, the national director of Human Rights, Yannick Bernardo.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official, who was speaking on the sidelines of the “training and awareness workshop on human trafficking for media professionals”, stressed that, in this context, 26 cases were sentenced and three were acquitted.<\/p>\n

However, he referred that, in the context of the fight against trafficking in human beings, \u201cthere has been, since 2014, an Interministerial Commission that outlines strategies to oppose actions related to trafficking in human beings\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yannick Bernardo also said that the country is prone to the recording of cases of human trafficking due to the vast border, which leads national authorities to be increasingly attentive.<\/p>\n

Given the harmful effects of these acts, the official stressed the need for the media to help raise society’s awareness of the phenomenon.<\/p>\n

The training meeting on human trafficking is attended by 25 journalists from different public and private agencies.<\/p>\n

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Angola states that the workshop aims to train and sensitize media professionals so that they can make people aware of the consequences and dangers of human trafficking, as well as report cases of trafficking in a sensitive and responsible manner.<\/p>\n

According to the organization, the idea arises from the need for the media to use the role and power of educating and raising awareness of the manifestations of human trafficking, as well as following a careful and vigilant policy regarding unpublished advertisements, which can inadvertently help traffickers. to exploit their victims.<\/p>\n

Angola approved, in 2020, the first National Action Plan to Prevent and Combat Trafficking in Human Beings in Angola, as part of the National Strategy for Human Rights, with the objectives of preventing human trafficking, protecting and assisting victims of trafficking, criminals in a serious and effective way, increase investigations, and promote national and international cooperation, in order to achieve the established objectives.<\/p>\n
